The 2017 Edition, Its British Roots, and the Revision
The 2017 edition is the one you certify to. ISO published it on 1 March 2017. Its full title is Collaborative business relationship management systems — Requirements and framework.
It has a long track record. It began as PAS 11000 in 2006 and became the British Standard BS 11000 in 2010. ISO then adopted it internationally, in the harmonized structure shared by other management system standards. A 2024 amendment added climate change.
A second edition is in development. Its draft international standard closed its ballot on 28 January 2026, and a guidance standard, ISO 44002, is also being drafted. Certificates to the 2017 edition stay valid until a new edition and transition period are announced.

Stages one to four happen before any partner is chosen, which surprises many first-time applicants. The standard treats readiness as your own job: knowing why you want to collaborate, what you bring, and what could go wrong. The exit stage matters just as much. Agreeing early how a relationship will end protects people, data, and reputation when contracts close, re-tender, or fail.
