ISO Certification in Spain: Accredited Audits for Car Suppliers, Agrifood Exporters, and Tech Firms
ISO certification in Spain helps automotive suppliers keep their place in carmaker supply chains, gives agrifood exporters evidence for European retailers, and lets technology firms answer security reviews from banks and public bodies. Accredify Global audits Spanish companies against ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 27001, ISO 37001, and the other standards in our scope.
What ISO Certification in Spain Proves to Clients and Contracting Authorities
ISO certification in Spain is an accredited certification body's independent verdict that your management system meets an international standard and works in practice. Our auditors read your records, talk to staff at different levels, and walk through plants, warehouses, offices, or greenhouses. A system that conforms receives a certificate valid for three years, with a surveillance audit in each of the two years between.
Automotive is one of the clearest sources of demand. Vehicle plants in Martorell, Vigo, Zaragoza, Valencia, Valladolid, Pamplona, and Vitoria pull in thousands of component makers. Those buyers expect ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 as a baseline, and many add energy and safety questions to their supplier audits.
Agrifood exports follow closely. Greenhouse growers in Almería, fruit and vegetable packers in Murcia, berry producers in Huelva, and olive oil mills in Jaén sell to supermarket chains across Europe. ISO 22000 and ISO 9001 give those buyers a structured food safety and quality system to review.
Technology and services cluster in Madrid, in the 22@ district of Barcelona, and around the Málaga technology park. Software houses, data centre operators, and outsourcing firms serve banks, insurers, and public bodies that ask for ISO 27001 during onboarding. Firms building AI products increasingly add ISO 42001.
Public contracts are a third driver. Ministries, regional governments, and city councils publish tenders on the Plataforma de Contratación del Sector Público and regional portals. Quality, environmental, and safety criteria in those tenders are easier to meet with an audited system.
Accredify Global is accredited by UAF, and our scope appears in its public directory. Some Spanish tenders and client contracts mention ENAC, the national accreditation body. If yours does, send us the clause before you book and we will confirm whether our certificate fits.
Spanish Rules in 2026 That Shape Certification Requests
Data protection rests on GDPR and a national organic law. Organic Law 3/2018 (LOPDGDD) took effect on 7 December 2018 and is enforced by the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos. Breaches go to the AEPD within 72 hours where GDPR requires it. Spain also names sectors that must appoint a data protection officer, including banks, insurers, schools, health centres, energy distributors, and gambling operators.
NIS2 is still waiting for its Spanish law. The cabinet approved the draft Ley de Coordinación y Gobernanza de la Ciberseguridad on 14 January 2025. As of 2026 it has not been published in the BOE, so Royal Decree-Law 12/2018 still governs network security. The draft proposes a single Centro Nacional de Ciberseguridad and fines of up to €10 million or 2% of turnover for essential entities.
Public sector suppliers meet the ENS. The Esquema Nacional de Seguridad, set by Royal Decree 311/2022 of 3 May, applies to public bodies and to private firms that supply them in scope. ENS certification is a separate national scheme. ISO 27001 shares much of its control logic, so many suppliers run both from one security system.
Whistleblowing channels are mandatory from 50 staff. Law 2/2023 of 20 February requires private employers with 50 or more workers to run an internal reporting system. Failing to have one is a very serious offence, with fines for companies of up to €1 million.

Standards Spanish Buyers and Tenders Ask For
Requirements differ by client and region, but these combinations come up most often in Spain.
| Sector | What the buyer worries about | Usual standards |
|---|---|---|
| Automotive component makers in Catalonia, Galicia, Aragón, Navarra, and the Basque Country | Process control, traceability, and plant emissions | ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 50001 |
| Greenhouse growers, packers, and olive oil mills | Food safety, residues, and shelf life | ISO 22000, ISO 9001, and HACCP |
| Software, cloud, and data centre operators | Client data, uptime, and supplier risk | ISO 27001, ISO 20000-1, and ISO 22301 |
| Construction and civil works contractors | Site safety under Law 31/1995 and tender scoring | ISO 45001, ISO 9001, and ISO 14001 |
| Hotels, resorts, and tour operators | Guest data, food handling, and energy use | ISO 22000, ISO 50001, and ISO 27701 |
| Companies building a criminal compliance program | Bribery risk and corporate liability | ISO 37001 |
| Medical device and diagnostics makers | Device quality for hospitals and EU regulators | ISO 13485 |
| AI and analytics firms | Responsible AI under the EU AI Act | ISO 42001 |
ENS certification and the UNE 19601 criminal compliance standard are national schemes outside our accreditation scope. ISO 27001 and ISO 37001 support them but do not replace them.
Many Spanish groups run several legal entities and sites under one management team. A Valencia ceramics maker might have a kiln plant in Castellón, a logistics yard near the port, and a sales office in Madrid. One integrated quality, environment, and safety system can cover all three. The audit plan then samples sites each year instead of auditing each one separately. Agrifood groups follow a similar pattern, with packing houses on the coast and farms inland. Their peak harvest months shape when the audit can see real production.
How ISO Supports Spanish Requirements
A certificate does not replace a licence, an ENS certificate, or a regulator's inspection. It gives you a working system that produces evidence for each of them.
| Rule or system | Who it reaches | How ISO supports it |
|---|---|---|
| GDPR and Organic Law 3/2018 (LOPDGDD) | Every controller and processor in Spain | ISO 27701 manages privacy duties; ISO 27001 protects the data |
| Royal Decree-Law 12/2018 and the coming NIS2 law | Essential service operators and digital service providers | ISO 27001 and ISO 22301 cover risk, incidents, and continuity |
| Esquema Nacional de Seguridad (RD 311/2022) | Public bodies and their in-scope suppliers | ISO 27001 shares controls; ENS certification is separate |
| Law 9/2017 on Public Sector Contracts (LCSP) | Firms bidding for public contracts | Articles 93 and 94 let buyers ask for quality and environmental certificates |
| Criminal Code Article 31 bis and Law 2/2023 | Companies exposed to corporate criminal liability | ISO 37001 structures anti-bribery controls and reporting |
| EU AI Act, supervised in Spain by AESIA | Providers and deployers of AI systems | ISO 42001 organizes AI risk, data, and oversight |
Article 93 of the LCSP also tells contracting authorities to accept equivalent certificates from bodies in other EU member states. That rule matters when a tender lists a particular accreditation mark. Some requirements need testing or advisory work rather than certification. Our VAPT services and cyber security risk assessment report against recognized frameworks. Our NIS2 readiness and GDPR services help firms prepare, and banks' suppliers can add DORA readiness.

FAQ: ISO Certification in Spain
Answers on public tenders, the ENS, NIS2, criminal compliance, cost, and timing.
How do I get ISO certification in Spain?
Pick the standard your client or pliego asks for and operate it long enough to create records. Then book Stage 1 and Stage 2 with an accredited body. A three-year certificate follows if the system conforms.
How long does ISO certification take in Spain?
A company with a working system often certifies 6 to 12 weeks after Stage 1. August closures, several regions, or a brand-new system stretch that timeline.
How much does ISO certification cost in Spain?
There is no fixed price. Your quote reflects the man-days the scope needs, based on headcount, sites, risk level, and the number of standards.
Is Accredify Global accredited?
Yes. UAF accredits us for twelve standards, including ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 27001, ISO 37001, and ISO 42001.
Will a Spanish public tender accept a UAF-accredited certificate?
Article 93 of Law 9/2017 requires contracting authorities to accept equivalent certificates from bodies in other member states. If the pliego names ENAC, send it to us before you book so we can check the wording.
Is ISO 27001 the same as ENS certification?
No. The ENS is a Spanish scheme under Royal Decree 311/2022 with its own certification route. ISO 27001 covers much of the same ground, and many suppliers hold both.
Has Spain transposed NIS2 yet?
Not fully. The cabinet approved the draft cybersecurity coordination law on 14 January 2025, but it was not in the BOE as of 2026. Royal Decree-Law 12/2018 still applies in the meantime.
How fast must a data breach be reported to the AEPD?
Under GDPR, notifiable breaches go to the AEPD within 72 hours of the company becoming aware of them. High-risk breaches must also be told to the people affected.
Does ISO 37001 help with criminal compliance under Article 31 bis?
It gives you an audited anti-bribery system with risk assessment, controls, and reporting channels. Courts and prosecutors look at how well such programs work in practice.
Do we need a whistleblowing channel under Law 2/2023?
Private employers with 50 or more workers must have an internal reporting system. ISO 37001 requires a reporting process, so one channel can serve both.
Which standard should an automotive supplier start with?
Most start with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, which carmakers check first. Energy-heavy plants often add ISO 50001 to track consumption.
Can you audit greenhouses in Almería during the harvest?
Yes. We plan visits for when packing lines run, so the auditor sees real production rather than an empty site.
Can audits be done in Spanish or Catalan?
Tell us the working languages at scoping. We plan the audit team and records review around them.
Can one certificate cover Spain and Portugal?
Yes, if all sites run one management system under the same organization. Each address appears on the certificate.
Will Accredify Global write our procedures?
No. Certification bodies must stay impartial, so we audit and certify only. Your own team or an independent consultant builds the system.
