ISO Certification in Belgium: Accredited Audits for Ports, Chemicals, Pharma, and NIS2 Entities
ISO certification in Belgium helps port and logistics operators satisfy shipping lines, gives chemical and pharma suppliers audited control, and supports entities preparing for the NIS2 conformity deadlines set by the Centre for Cybersecurity Belgium. Accredify Global audits Belgian organizations against ISO 27001, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 13485, and the other standards in our scope.
What ISO Certification in Belgium Shows Clients and Authorities
ISO certification in Belgium is an accredited certification body's independent finding that your management system meets an international standard and is followed on the ground. Auditors study your records, question your staff, and visit terminals, plants, laboratories, warehouses, or offices. A conforming system earns a certificate that lasts three years, with a surveillance audit every year in between.
The port economy shapes much of the demand. Antwerp and Zeebrugge merged in 2022 to form Port of Antwerp-Bruges, which describes itself as Europe's largest export port. It also hosts what the port calls Europe's largest integrated chemical cluster. Terminal operators, forwarders, tank storage firms, and maintenance contractors serve that cluster. Their supplier reviews ask for ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001.
Pharmaceuticals and biotech form a second pillar. Vaccine, biologics, and medical device plants operate in the Antwerp region, Flemish Brabant, Walloon Brabant, and around Liège and Charleroi. Their suppliers of packaging, cleaning, calibration, and logistics need audited quality systems. Device makers serving EU markets use ISO 13485 as their quality backbone.
Ghent adds steel, car assembly, and a canal port that crosses into the Netherlands. Liège Airport runs a major cargo hub, and Wallonia hosts logistics parks along the motorway corridors. Manufacturers in these areas often combine ISO 9001 with ISO 14001 because regional environmental permits already require tight monitoring.
Brussels brings a different market. EU institutions, NATO, federal services, and the consultancies and IT suppliers around them buy services through formal tenders. Security, continuity, and privacy evidence matter in those bids. Since the NIS2 law took effect on 18 October 2024, many of their IT and managed service suppliers face direct cyber obligations as well.
Accredify Global is accredited by UAF, an IAF MLA signatory, and our scope is listed in its directory. BELAC is the Belgian accreditation body, and NBN publishes national standards. If a tender, client, or NIS2 route names a specific body, send us that wording first. We will confirm whether our certificate fits.
Belgian Rules in 2026 That Lead to Certification Requests
NIS2 is already law, with fixed conformity dates. The Law of 26 April 2024 and a Royal Decree of 9 June 2024 transposed NIS2, effective 18 October 2024. The Centre for Cybersecurity Belgium (CCB) supervises. Essential entities had to complete an initial conformity step by 18 April 2026. Those following the CyberFundamentals or ISO 27001 route must hold the certificate by 18 April 2027. Incidents need an early warning within 24 hours, a notification within 72 hours, and a final report within one month.
Only CCB-authorized bodies count for the NIS2 ISO route. On the ISO 27001 route, the certifying body needs accreditation from an EA or IAF agreement signatory. The CCB must also authorize it separately. The scope must also cover the services that fall under NIS2. Check the CCB list and ask us before you book if this route matters to you.
Personal data has its own Belgian law and regulator. Belgium applies the GDPR through the Law of 30 July 2018 on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data. The Data Protection Authority (GBA in Dutch, APD in French) was set up by a law of 3 December 2017. Qualifying breaches go to the authority within 72 hours.
Sustainability reporting was narrowed in 2026. Belgium transposed the CSRD by a law of 2 December 2024. The EU Omnibus I directive, published on 26 February 2026, limits reporting to companies with more than 1,000 employees and over €450 million in turnover. Suppliers to those companies still receive environmental and safety data requests.

Standards Belgian Clients Ask For
Supplier questionnaires change from one client to the next. These combinations come up most often.
| Sector | What the buyer worries about | Usual standards |
|---|---|---|
| Terminal, forwarding, and tank storage firms | Reliable service for shipping lines and shippers | ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 |
| Contractors inside chemical and Seveso sites | Safety on the plant floor | ISO 45001 with ISO 14001 |
| Pharma suppliers and device makers | Quality evidence for regulated clients | ISO 13485 and ISO 9001 |
| IT, cloud, and managed service providers | NIS2 duties passed down by clients | ISO 27001 and ISO 22301 |
| Steel, glass, and energy-intensive plants | Energy cost and efficiency targets | ISO 50001 |
| Food processors and chocolate makers | Food safety for retail and export buyers | ISO 22000 and HACCP |
| Suppliers to EU bodies and federal services | Tender scoring on quality and security | ISO 9001, ISO 27001, and ISO 27701 |
Contractors on chemical sites are often also asked for VCA (SCC), a separate Belgian and Dutch safety checklist scheme. ISO 45001 supports it but does not replace it.
Port and chemical suppliers benefit most from one integrated system. A maintenance contractor might hold a depot near the Antwerp docks, teams working inside client plants, and an office in Ghent. One safety, environmental, and quality system can cover all of it. Audits then sample client sites where work is under way. The same evidence answers plant access checks, VCA reviews, and supplier questionnaires without three separate sets of paperwork.
How ISO Supports Belgian Obligations
A certificate is not a permit, a CCB approval, or a regulator's license. It is the system that keeps controls working between inspections and client audits.
| Rule or system | Who it reaches | How ISO supports it |
|---|---|---|
| NIS2 Law of 26 April 2024 | Essential and important entities in 18 sectors | ISO 27001 supports risk measures and incident reporting |
| Law of 30 July 2018 and the GDPR | Any organization processing personal data | ISO 27701 runs privacy duties; ISO 27001 secures the data |
| Well-being at Work Act of 4 August 1996 | Every employer in Belgium | ISO 45001 structures risk analysis and prevention |
| Regional environmental permits | Sites in Flanders, Wallonia, and Brussels | ISO 14001 tracks permit conditions and incidents |
| Law of 17 June 2016 on public procurement | Suppliers bidding for public contracts | Certificates support selection and award criteria |
| CSRD law of 2 December 2024 | Large companies and their supply chains | ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 supply reliable data |
Some duties need testing or a separate framework. Our NIS2 readiness work maps controls to CyberFundamentals and ISO 27001, and our VAPT services test systems against recognized methods. Banks, insurers, and their ICT suppliers can use our DORA readiness services. Our GDPR services help with records of processing and breach handling.

FAQ: ISO Certification in Belgium
Answers on NIS2 and the CCB, the port cluster, VCA, data protection, cost, and timing.
How do I get ISO certification in Belgium?
Choose the standard your client, tender, or NIS2 route calls for. Run the system until it produces records, then book Stage 1 and Stage 2 with an accredited body. A three-year certificate follows if you conform.
How long does ISO certification take in Belgium?
With a working system, many organizations certify within 6 to 12 weeks of Stage 1. Groups with sites in several regions, or a new system, need more time.
How much does ISO certification cost in Belgium?
No list price applies. The proposal reflects the man-days your scope needs, driven by headcount, sites, hazards, and the standards chosen.
Is Accredify Global accredited?
Yes. UAF, an IAF MLA signatory, accredits Accredify Global for twelve standards, including ISO 27001, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and ISO 13485.
Will Belgian clients accept a UAF-accredited certificate?
Many accept accredited certificates from bodies in the international arrangement. Some tenders name BELAC or a European body, so send us the clause before you book.
Can our ISO 27001 certificate count for NIS2 in Belgium?
Only if the certifying body is accredited and also authorized by the CCB, and the scope covers your NIS2 services. Check the CCB list and ask us before booking for this purpose.
What are the NIS2 deadlines for essential entities?
An initial conformity step was due by 18 April 2026. Entities on the CyberFundamentals or ISO 27001 route must hold the certificate by 18 April 2027.
How fast must a cyber incident be reported to the CCB?
A significant incident needs an early warning within 24 hours, a notification within 72 hours, and a final report within one month.
What fines does the Belgian NIS2 law allow?
For essential entities, up to €10 million or 2% of worldwide turnover. For important entities, up to €7 million or 1.4%. Amounts can double for repeat breaches within three years.
Who handles data breaches in Belgium?
The Data Protection Authority, known as GBA in Dutch and APD in French. Controllers report qualifying breaches within 72 hours.
Is ISO 45001 the same as VCA?
No. VCA (SCC) is a contractor safety checklist used in Belgium and the Netherlands. ISO 45001 certifies a full safety management system. Many port contractors hold both.
In which language will the audit take place?
Staff documents follow Belgian language rules: Dutch in Flanders, French in Wallonia, and German in the German-speaking area. Tell us your working languages and we will confirm the audit language in the proposal.
Can parts of the audit be remote?
Document review and some interviews can be remote where accreditation rules allow. Terminals, plants, labs, and client sites are audited in person.
Can one certificate cover Belgium and the Netherlands?
Yes, if all sites run one management system under the same organization. Each site is listed on the certificate and sampled over the cycle.
Will Accredify Global write our procedures?
No. Certification bodies must remain impartial, so we audit and certify only. Your team or an independent adviser builds the system. Accredify Global is headquartered in Dallas–Fort Worth, Texas.
