ISO Certification in the Netherlands: Accredited Audits for Logistics, Agrifood, Tech, and NIS2-Scoped Firms
ISO certification in the Netherlands helps port and logistics firms win shipper contracts, gives tech suppliers an answer to the new Cyberbeveiligingswet, and supports contractors in TenderNed bids. Accredify Global audits Dutch organizations against ISO 27001, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 22000, and the other standards in our scope. Every engagement starts with a free scoping review.
What ISO Certification in the Netherlands Shows Clients and Inspectors
ISO certification in the Netherlands is an accredited certification body's independent finding that your management system meets an international standard and works in practice. Auditors read your records, talk to staff, and walk through terminals, greenhouses, cleanrooms, offices, or building sites. A conforming system earns a three-year certificate, kept valid by a surveillance audit every year.
Trade drives much of the demand. The Port of Rotterdam is the largest seaport in Europe, and Schiphol is one of Europe's main air cargo hubs. Terminal operators, forwarders, and distribution centres in Venlo, Tilburg, and Moerdijk serve shippers who write ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 into their logistics contracts.
Agrifood is the second pillar. Greenhouse growers in the Westland, dairy processors in Friesland, and food companies around Wageningen export across Europe. Retail buyers expect audited food safety, and ISO 22000 gives them a recognized base next to the private schemes they already use.
High-tech manufacturing clusters around Brainport Eindhoven. Suppliers of machine parts, cleanroom assemblies, and software to semiconductor equipment makers work under strict quality agreements. ISO 9001 is the entry ticket, and ISO 27001 increasingly follows because design files and customer data travel through the chain.
The new Cyberbeveiligingswet now reaches about 8,000 organizations in 18 sectors. Many of their IT, cloud, and managed service suppliers are being asked for ISO 27001 during contract renewals.
Accredify Global is accredited by UAF, and our scope is listed in its directory. Some Dutch tenders mention the Raad voor Accreditatie or ask for an accredited certificate in general terms. If a tender or client names a specific accreditation body, share the wording before you book and we will confirm the fit.
Dutch Rules in 2026 That Shape Certification Requests
NIS2 is now Dutch law. The Cyberbeveiligingswet (Cbw) entered into force on 15 August 2026 and replaced the 2018 Wbni. It covers about 8,000 organizations across 18 sectors. Entities must register with the NCSC through Mijn.NCSC.nl and report significant incidents to their CSIRT. An early warning is due within 24 hours and a fuller notification within 72 hours.
Supervision is split by sector. The RDI supervises digital infrastructure, ICT service management, energy, and manufacturing. The ILT covers transport and water, DNB covers banks, and the IGJ covers health care. Fines reach €10 million or 2% of worldwide turnover for essential entities, and €7 million or 1.4% for important entities.
Critical entities have a second law. The Wet weerbaarheid kritieke entiteiten (Wwke) took effect on the same day and covers about 500 organizations. It adds physical and operational resilience duties on top of cybersecurity.
Privacy rules stay strict. The GDPR applies through the Uitvoeringswet AVG (UAVG), in force since 25 May 2018. The Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens (AP) expects notifiable breaches within 72 hours. In 2024 it fined a ride-hailing platform €290 million over transfers of driver data to the United States.

Standards Dutch Buyers Ask For
Tender documents and supplier audits differ, yet these standards come up most often.
| Sector | What the buyer worries about | Usual standards |
|---|---|---|
| Port terminals, forwarders, and distribution centres | Reliable handling, emissions, and yard safety | ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 |
| Greenhouse growers and food processors | Food safety and traceability for retailers | ISO 22000 and HACCP |
| Cloud, hosting, and managed service providers | Cbw duties and client supply chain checks | ISO 27001 and ISO 20000-1 |
| High-tech suppliers in Brainport Eindhoven | Process control and protection of design data | ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 |
| Health care providers and health IT firms | Patient data and NEN 7510 alignment | ISO 27001 and ISO 27701 |
| Infrastructure and installation contractors | Site safety, quality, and CO2 tender scores | ISO 45001, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 50001 |
| Chemical and process plants in Rotterdam and Chemelot | Process safety, emissions, and energy use | ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and ISO 50001 |
| Medical device makers | Device quality for EU market access | ISO 13485 |
The CO2 Performance Ladder, VCA, and NEN 7510 are separate Dutch schemes. ISO certificates support them but do not replace them.
Dutch contractors often hold several certificates at once. A civil engineering firm bidding for Rijkswaterstaat or a province may need ISO 9001, VCA for site safety, and a CO2 Performance Ladder level for the award advantage. ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 give the Ladder audit reliable energy and emissions data. An integrated ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 system then covers the head office and a sample of live projects each year. The tender team stops collecting fresh evidence for every bid, and site managers deal with one audit plan instead of three.
How ISO Supports Dutch Requirements
A certificate is not a licence or a supervisor's approval. It is the system that keeps controls working between inspections and client reviews.
| Rule or system | Who it reaches | How ISO supports it |
|---|---|---|
| Cyberbeveiligingswet (NIS2) | Essential and important entities in 18 sectors | ISO 27001 structures the duty of care, risk management, and incident reporting |
| Wet weerbaarheid kritieke entiteiten | About 500 designated critical entities | ISO 22301 supports continuity and recovery plans |
| GDPR and the UAVG | Every organization processing personal data | ISO 27701 runs privacy duties; ISO 27001 secures the data |
| BIO2 for government bodies | Ministries, provinces, water boards, and their IT suppliers | ISO 27001 maps onto the BIO2 control structure based on ISO 27002:2022 |
| NEN 7510 for health care | Care providers handling patient data | An ISO 27001 system covers most of the groundwork |
| Aanbestedingswet 2012 and TenderNed | Suppliers bidding for public contracts | Certificates answer suitability and quality criteria |
Some Dutch requirements call for testing or a separate scheme rather than an ISO certificate. Our VAPT services and cyber security risk assessment report against recognized frameworks. Our NIS2 readiness work helps Cbw-scoped firms map their gaps, and financial firms can add DORA readiness. Firms selling to US clients can add SOC 2 support.

FAQ: ISO Certification in the Netherlands
Answers on the Cbw, tenders, the CO2 Performance Ladder, cost, and timing.
How do I get ISO certification in the Netherlands?
Pick the standard your client, tender, or supervisor points to, and run the system until it produces records. Then book Stage 1 and Stage 2 with an accredited body. A three-year certificate follows once you conform.
How long does ISO certification take in the Netherlands?
With a working system, most organizations certify 6 to 12 weeks after Stage 1. Several sites, several standards, or a brand-new system add time.
How much does ISO certification cost in the Netherlands?
There is no list price. Each quote reflects the man-days your scope needs, based on effective headcount, sites, risk, and the standards involved.
Is Accredify Global accredited?
Yes. UAF accredits Accredify Global for twelve standards, including ISO 27001, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and ISO 22000.
Does a tender that mentions the Raad voor Accreditatie accept a UAF certificate?
Many Dutch tenders accept accredited certificates from bodies in the international arrangement. Some ask for RvA accreditation specifically, so send us the clause before you book.
Does the Cyberbeveiligingswet require ISO 27001?
No. The Cbw sets a duty of care, registration, and incident reporting. ISO 27001 is a practical way to run and evidence those duties, but it is not a legal condition.
When did the Cbw take effect, and who must register?
It entered into force on 15 August 2026. Essential and important entities register with the NCSC through Mijn.NCSC.nl.
How fast must incidents be reported under the Cbw?
An early warning goes to the CSIRT within 24 hours of awareness. A fuller notification follows within 72 hours and a final report within one month.
We supply IT services to a Cbw entity. Are we affected?
Your client must manage supply chain risk, so expect security clauses and audits. ISO 27001 answers most of those questions with one certificate.
Does ISO 27001 replace NEN 7510 for a care provider?
No. Dutch care providers must meet NEN 7510, which is derived from ISO 27001 and adds health care controls. An ISO 27001 system covers much of the groundwork.
Is ISO 14001 enough for the CO2 Performance Ladder?
No. The Ladder is a separate SKAO scheme with its own certificate. ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 supply the energy and emissions data it relies on.
Does ISO 45001 replace VCA for contractors?
No. VCA is a separate safety checklist many Dutch and Belgian clients require. ISO 45001 sets up the wider safety management system around it.
Can the audit be held in English?
Yes. Records may be in Dutch or English. Tell us early if key documents are only in Dutch so we can plan the audit team.
Can parts of the audit be remote?
Document review and some interviews can be remote where the rules allow. Terminals, greenhouses, plants, and live sites are audited in person.
Will Accredify Global write our documents?
No. A certification body must stay impartial, so we audit and certify only. Your own team or an independent consultant builds the system.
