What ISO Certification in Bulgaria Shows EU Clients and Authorities

ISO certification in Bulgaria is an accredited certification body's finding, after an independent audit, that your management system meets an international standard and is used day to day. Auditors sample your records, question staff at several levels, and walk through delivery centers, production halls, mines, hotels, or warehouses. A passing system holds a three-year certificate, confirmed by surveillance audits in years one and two.

Technology services lead demand in Sofia. Software developers, outsourcing centers, and shared service teams work for clients in Western Europe and the United States. Those clients send long security questionnaires, and ISO 27001 answers most of them in one document. Many firms add ISO 27701 for GDPR evidence and ISO 20000-1 for managed services.

Manufacturing grows around Plovdiv and the Trakia Economic Zone, and in Ruse, Stara Zagora, and Sofia. Plants make automotive parts, electrical equipment, machinery, and consumer goods for buyers across the EU. Those buyers expect ISO 9001 as a minimum, and many now add ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 to supplier scorecards.

Heavy industry and energy have their own reasons. Copper and gold mining and metal processing in the Srednogorie region, power generation, and chemical plants carry safety and environmental risk. ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and ISO 50001 give lenders, insurers, and inspectors one consistent set of records.

Tourism and food complete the picture. Black Sea resorts near Varna and Burgas and mountain resorts such as Bansko and Borovets serve European tour operators. Wine, dairy, sunflower oil, and rose oil producers export across the EU, and ISO 22000 gives their buyers a recognized food safety base.

Accredify Global is accredited by UAF, and our scope is listed in its directory. The national accreditation body is the Executive Agency Bulgarian Accreditation Service, and the national standards body is the Bulgarian Institute for Standardization. If a tender or customer names a particular accreditation body, send us the wording before you book and we will confirm the fit.

Bulgarian Rules in 2026 That Drive Certification Requests

NIS2 arrived in February 2026. The National Assembly adopted final amendments to the Cybersecurity Act on 5 February 2026, and they took effect on 17 February 2026. Covered sectors include healthcare, digital infrastructure, postal services, waste, food production, chemicals, and manufacturing of machinery, electronics, vehicles, and medical devices. Entities must assess for themselves whether they meet the criteria.

Reporting deadlines are tight. A significant incident needs an early warning within 24 hours and a notification within 72 hours. A final report follows within one month. Essential entities face fines up to €10 million or 2% of worldwide turnover, with a €25,000 minimum. Important entities face up to €7 million or 1.4%, with a €12,500 minimum.

Managers carry personal risk. Individual managers and board members can be fined between €500 and €5,000. For serious breaches they can be barred from management roles.

Data protection enforcement has teeth. The Personal Data Protection Act, amended in 2019 to fit the GDPR, is supervised by the Commission for Personal Data Protection. Breaches go to the Commission within 72 hours. In August 2019 it fined the National Revenue Agency BGN 5.1 million after a breach exposed data on more than 5 million people.

Standards Bulgarian Clients and Buyers Ask For

Questionnaires differ by client, yet the same certificates appear across Bulgarian industries.

Wine, dairy, and rose oil producersFood safety and traceability for EU buyersISO 22000 and HACCP
Pharmaceutical and medical device makersProduct quality for regulators and distributorsISO 13485 and ISO 9001

Automotive customers may also ask for IATF 16949, which is a separate scheme outside our UAF scope.

Sofia delivery centers often belong to foreign groups, and the parent may hold its own certificate. In that case the Bulgarian team can join the group scope or certify on its own, depending on how controls are run. We look at who owns access management, incident response, and supplier checks before proposing a scope. Manufacturers face a different question. A plant near Plovdiv may supply three EU customers, each with its own audit. One integrated ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 system gives all of them the same evidence and cuts repeat visits.

How ISO Supports Bulgarian Requirements

A certificate is not a permit. It is the system that keeps controls working between inspections, tenders, and customer audits.

Public tenders run on CAIS EOP, the national e-procurement platform managed by the Public Procurement Agency. Registration needs a qualified electronic signature, and tender files often list ISO certificates among the selection criteria. Bulgaria adopted the euro on 1 January 2026, so check that price lists, contracts, and finance controls inside your system now reference euros. Some needs call for testing rather than certification. Our VAPT services and cyber security risk assessment report against recognized frameworks. Our NIS2 readiness and GDPR services sit within our wider compliance services. Software firms with US clients can add SOC 2 support.

Scope and cost

What ISO Certification Costs in Bulgaria

Fees come from audit man-days for each site and standard, set out in the proposal before you commit. Delivery centers running one system can be sampled rather than all visited every year.

What adds days

  • Mines, plants, or depots far from Sofia
  • Shift work that must be seen across several shifts
  • High-risk mining, energy, or chemical work
  • Each standard audited on its own

What saves days

  • One integrated system across all sites
  • ISO 27001 and ISO 27701 audited together
  • Records filed and indexed before Stage 1
  • Internal audit and management review finished

Common questions

FAQ: ISO Certification in Bulgaria

Answers on NIS2, the CPDP, IT exports, manufacturing, cost, and timing.

How do I get ISO certification in Bulgaria?

Start with the standard your client or tender names. Operate the system until it produces records, then book Stage 1 and Stage 2 with an accredited body. A three-year certificate follows once you conform.

How long does ISO certification take in Bulgaria?

With a working system, most organizations certify within 6 to 12 weeks of Stage 1. Several sites, shift patterns, or a brand-new system add time.

How much does ISO certification cost in Bulgaria?

There is no price list. The proposal reflects the man-days your scope needs, set by headcount, sites, risk, and standards.

Is Accredify Global accredited?

Yes. UAF accredits us for twelve standards, including ISO 27001, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and ISO 22000.

Will Bulgarian tenders accept a UAF-accredited certificate?

Many accept certificates from accredited bodies in the international arrangement. If a tender names a specific accreditation body, send us the clause before booking.

When did NIS2 take effect in Bulgaria?

The amended Cybersecurity Act took effect on 17 February 2026, after final adoption on 5 February 2026.

Does ISO 27001 satisfy the Cybersecurity Act?

Not by itself. It provides a tested framework for the risk measures the law requires. Registration and incident reporting remain separate duties.

How fast must incidents be reported in Bulgaria?

An early warning within 24 hours, a notification within 72 hours, and a final report within one month.

Can managers be fined personally under Bulgarian NIS2 rules?

Yes. Individual managers can be fined €500 to €5,000 and, for serious breaches, barred from management roles.

Who enforces data protection in Bulgaria?

The Commission for Personal Data Protection. Notifiable breaches must reach it within 72 hours.

Does ISO 27701 help with the Personal Data Protection Act?

Yes. It adds privacy roles, processing records, rights handling, and breach response to an ISO 27001 system.

Should a Sofia software firm choose ISO 27001 or SOC 2?

European clients usually ask for ISO 27001, while US clients often ask for SOC 2. Many firms run one control set for both.

Can audits be partly remote?

Document review and some interviews can be remote where accreditation rules allow. Plants, mines, and warehouses are audited in person.

Can documents stay in Bulgarian?

Yes. Tell us at scoping so we plan language capability, and flag the key records that may need translation.

Will Accredify Global write our procedures?

No. Certification bodies must stay impartial, so we audit and certify only. Your team or an independent consultant builds the system.
