What ISO Certification in Serbia Tells Clients and Contracting Authorities

ISO certification in Serbia is an accredited certification body's independent finding that your management system meets an international standard and is followed day to day. Auditors check records, interview staff, and walk through development offices, production halls, cold stores, and building sites. A conforming system earns a three-year certificate, upheld by an annual surveillance audit.

Technology exports set the pace. Serbian ICT exports reached a record EUR 4.133 billion in 2024, up more than 20% on the year before. Development centres in Belgrade, Novi Sad, and Niš build software for clients in Germany, the Nordics, the UK, and the US. Those clients routinely ask for ISO 27001 before they share production data or source code.

Manufacturing for EU plants is the second engine. Kragujevac assembles cars, and suppliers of wiring, tires, rubber, and electrical parts operate in free zones and industrial parks across Vojvodina and central Serbia. Their customers expect ISO 9001 as a minimum, and many add ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 to supplier scorecards.

Food and agriculture matter for exports too. Serbia is one of the world's leading raspberry exporters, with orchards and cold stores around Arilje and western Serbia. Fruit freezers, grain mills, and meat and dairy plants in Vojvodina sell to EU retailers that want food safety evidence they recognize.

Mining, metals, and construction complete the picture. Steelmaking in Smederevo and other metal exporters now face EU carbon border rules. Copper mining around Bor draws close attention to environmental and safety controls. Belgrade is also preparing to host Specialised Expo 2027 from 15 May to 15 August 2027, which keeps contractors and facility operators busy.

Accredify Global is accredited by UAF, and our scope is listed in its public directory. If a tender or client contract names the Accreditation Body of Serbia (ATS) or another specific body, send us the wording first. We will confirm whether our certificate meets it before you book.

Serbian Rules in 2026 That Shape Certification Requests

Data protection follows the GDPR model. The Law on Personal Data Protection (Official Gazette 87/2018) has applied since 21 August 2019. The Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection enforces it. Controllers must report qualifying breaches to the Commissioner within 72 hours where possible. Fines for a legal entity range from RSD 50,000 to RSD 2,000,000.

A new information security law took effect in 2025. The Law on Information Security (Official Gazette 91/2025) entered into force on 31 October 2025 and brings Serbia closer to the EU NIS2 directive. Priority and important ICT system operators must report significant incidents within 24 hours. Existing operators must adopt a risk assessment and a security act by 30 April 2027.

Public tenders run fully online. The Law on Public Procurement (Official Gazette 91/2019) has applied since 1 July 2020. Every procedure, from notice to bid, runs on the Public Procurement Portal. Where a tender asks for quality or environmental certificates, they help prove technical capacity.

Standards Serbian Buyers Ask For

Client questionnaires and tender files vary, yet these standards keep coming up.

SectorWhat the buyer worries aboutUsual standards
Software development and IT outsourcing firmsSource code, client data, and access controlISO 27001 and ISO 27701
Managed service and hosting providersService levels and incident handlingISO 27001 and ISO 20000-1
Automotive and electrical component suppliersDefect rates and delivery reliabilityISO 9001 and ISO 14001
Fruit freezers, mills, and meat and dairy plantsFood safety for EU retailersISO 22000 and ISO 9001
Contractors on Expo and infrastructure projectsSite safety and qualityISO 45001, ISO 9001, and ISO 14001
Metals, mining, and energy-intensive plantsEnergy cost and carbon dataISO 50001 and ISO 14001
Banks, insurers, and payment firmsCyber risk and service continuityISO 27001 and ISO 22301

Automotive OEMs often ask for IATF 16949 as well. That is a separate scheme with its own rules. ISO 9001 is the usual starting point toward it.

Nearshore software firms gain most when the certificate scope matches how delivery really works. A typical Serbian company runs teams in Belgrade and Novi Sad, a few remote engineers, and cloud hosting in the EU. One ISO 27001 system can cover all of it, with the audit sampling projects and client environments. Sales teams then answer security questionnaires with one certificate and one Statement of Applicability. That shortens client onboarding, which often decides whether a new contract starts this quarter or next.

How ISO Supports Serbian Requirements

A certificate is not a licence or a permit. It is the system that keeps controls working between client audits and inspections.

Some needs call for testing rather than certification. Our VAPT services and cyber security risk assessment report against recognized frameworks. IT firms serving EU clients can use our NIS2 readiness service and GDPR services. Payment processors can add PCI DSS readiness, and firms with US clients often add SOC 2 support.

Common questions

FAQ: ISO Certification in Serbia

Answers on IT exports, the 2025 security law, personal data, tenders, cost, and timing.

How do I get ISO certification in Serbia?

Choose the standard your client or tender asks for and run the system until it produces records. Then book Stage 1 and Stage 2 with an accredited body. It issues a three-year certificate once you conform.

How long does certification take for a Serbian company?

With a working system, most firms certify 6 to 12 weeks after Stage 1. Multiple plants, several standards, or a new system add time.

How much does ISO certification cost in Serbia?

There is no fixed price. Every proposal is built from the man-days your scope needs, driven by headcount, sites, risk, and standards.

Is Accredify Global accredited?

Yes. UAF accredits Accredify Global for twelve standards, including ISO 27001, ISO 9001, ISO 22000, ISO 45001, and ISO 14001.

Will a tender that names ATS accept a UAF-accredited certificate?

Many contracting authorities accept accredited certificates from bodies in the international arrangement. If the tender names ATS specifically, send us the clause before booking.

Does the 2025 Law on Information Security apply to my company?

It covers priority and important ICT system operators in sectors such as energy, banking, health, food, and electronics. Government bylaws set the size criteria, so check your status early.

How fast must an incident be reported under the new security law?

Significant incidents must be reported without delay and no later than 24 hours after the operator learns of them. A final report follows after the incident ends.

Does ISO 27001 meet the 2025 security law?

It is not named as a legal substitute. It does give you the risk assessment, controls, and incident process the law expects from operators.

How fast must a personal data breach be reported in Serbia?

Controllers notify the Commissioner without undue delay and, where possible, within 72 hours. Processors must alert the controller without undue delay.

Do Serbian IT outsourcing firms need ISO 27001?

No law requires it for most firms. EU and US clients, however, often make it a condition before granting access to their systems.

Can raspberry and fruit exporters start with ISO 22000?

Yes. Many freezers start there, then add ISO 9001. Retailer schemes and residue testing are separate and still apply.

Can audit records be in Serbian?

Tell us whether your records are in Serbian, Cyrillic or Latin, or in English. We confirm the audit language and any interpreter needs in the proposal.

Can parts of a Serbian audit be remote?

Document review and some interviews can be remote where accreditation rules allow. Plants, cold stores, and building sites are audited in person.

Can one certificate cover Serbia and our EU offices?

Yes, if all sites run one management system under the same organization. Each location is listed on the certificate.

Will Accredify Global write our procedures?

No. A certification body must stay impartial, so we audit and certify only. Your team or an independent consultant builds the system.
