ISO Certification in Colombia: Accredited Audits for Exporters, Service Firms, Energy, and Public Contractors
ISO certification in Colombia is a common entry ticket for flower, coffee, and fruit exporters, for software and BPO firms serving foreign clients, and for contractors bidding on SECOP II. Accredify Global audits Colombian companies against ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 27001, ISO 37001, and the rest of our accredited scope.
What ISO Certification in Colombia Tells Clients and Contracting Entities
ISO certification in Colombia is an independent finding, issued by an accredited certification body, that your management system meets an international standard and is used day to day. The audit team samples records, interviews staff, and visits greenhouses, plants, offices, or field sites. A conforming system receives a certificate valid for three years, with a surveillance audit every year.
Exports are the first driver. Cut flowers grown on the Sabana de Bogotá and around Rionegro in Antioquia ship mostly to the United States. Coffee comes from the Eje Cafetero and Huila, and bananas from Urabá and Magdalena. Their buyers check quality and food safety before they sign seasonal contracts.
Services are the second. Medellín and Bogotá host software houses, contact centers, and shared service centers. They work for clients in the United States, Spain, and the rest of Latin America. Those clients send security questionnaires, and ISO 27001 answers most of them in one document.
Energy and extraction come third. Oil fields in Meta and Casanare, the Barrancabermeja refinery, and coal mines in Cesar and La Guajira all rely on contractors. Those contractors must prove safety and environmental control. Operators often make ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 a condition of entry.
Public work is the fourth. National and local entities publish their tenders on SECOP II, and many evaluation grids give weight to quality, safety, and environmental certificates. Builders, engineering firms, and suppliers in Barranquilla, Cali, and Bucaramanga therefore treat certification as part of their bidding kit.
Accredify Global holds UAF accreditation, and our scope appears in its public directory. ONAC is Colombia's national accreditation body. A pliego de condiciones or client contract may name ONAC or another body. Share that text before you book and we will confirm the fit.
Colombian Rules in 2026 That Shape Certification Requests
Data protection is mature and actively supervised. Law 1581 of 2012 and Decree 1377 of 2013 set the rules, and the Superintendencia de Industria y Comercio (SIC) enforces them. Security incidents must be reported to the SIC within 15 business days. Fines reach the equivalent of 2,000 legal monthly minimum wages. A reform bill proposing a 72-hour breach deadline was still under review in 2026.
Labor rules changed in 2025 and 2026. Law 2466 of 2025, the labor reform passed in June 2025, reshaped overtime and night-work surcharges. Night work now starts at 7 p.m. The legal work week fell to 42 hours on 15 July 2026. Plants and contact centers running shifts have redrawn rosters, which ISO 45001 audits review.
Every employer must run an OHS system. Decree 1072 of 2015 requires each employer to operate an occupational health and safety management system, the SG-SST. Resolution 0312 of 2019 sets its minimum standards by company size and risk. ISO 45001 builds on the same structure and adds an independent audit.

Standards Colombian Buyers and Entities Ask For
Pliegos, buyer audits, and client questionnaires vary, but these standards show up most.
| Sector | What the buyer worries about | Usual standards |
|---|---|---|
| Flower growers on the Sabana de Bogotá and in Antioquia | Worker safety, chemicals, and consistent quality | ISO 9001, ISO 45001, and ISO 14001 |
| Coffee, banana, and processed food exporters | Food safety and traceability | ISO 22000 and HACCP |
| Software, BPO, and shared service centers | Client data and service levels | ISO 27001 and ISO 20000-1 |
| Banks, insurers, and fintechs | Cyber risk and continuity | ISO 27001 and ISO 22301 |
| Oil, gas, and coal contractors | Field safety and spills | ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and ISO 50001 |
| Construction and engineering firms on public works | Tender scoring and site control | ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 |
| Companies under transparency program rules | Bribery and integrity risk | ISO 37001 |
Retailer farm schemes and flower industry labels are separate programs. ISO certification supports them but does not replace them.
A flower grower shows how one system can carry several demands. A farm group might run greenhouses in Madrid, Funza, and Facatativá, a post-harvest room near El Dorado airport, and a sales office in Bogotá. Its US importers ask about quality and traceability, while the SG-SST and environmental authorities ask about chemicals, water, and worker exposure. One integrated ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 system answers both sides. Audits then sample the farms over the three-year cycle, and the busiest weeks before Valentine's Day and Mother's Day stay free for harvest.
How ISO Supports Colombian Requirements
A certificate is not a license. It is the system that keeps controls in place between buyer, Superintendencia, and contracting entity reviews.
| Rule or system | Who it reaches | How ISO supports it |
|---|---|---|
| Law 1581 of 2012 and Decree 1377 of 2013 | Companies processing personal data of people in Colombia | ISO 27701 runs privacy duties; ISO 27001 secures the data |
| National Database Register (RNBD) | Companies with total assets above 100,000 UVT | ISO 27701 keeps processing records current |
| Decree 1072 of 2015 (SG-SST) | Every employer | ISO 45001 strengthens and audits the SG-SST |
| Law 1778 of 2016 and transparency programs (PTEE) | Companies supervised by the Superintendencia de Sociedades | ISO 37001 gives integrity controls an audit trail |
| Law 80 of 1993 and SECOP II | Firms bidding for public contracts | Certificates support RUP files and technical scoring |
Financial entities supervised by the Superintendencia Financiera follow its rules on cybersecurity and information security risk, and they pass many of those duties to their suppliers. Our VAPT services and cyber security risk assessment report against recognized frameworks. Payment firms can add PCI DSS readiness, and BPO firms serving Spain or other EU clients can review our GDPR page. Colombian technical standards (NTC) from ICONTEC and technical regulations for products are separate, and ISO certification of a management system does not replace them.

FAQ: ISO Certification in Colombia
Answers on exports, SECOP II, the SIC, the SG-SST, cost, and timing.
How do I get ISO certification in Colombia?
Decide which standard your buyer or pliego asks for, put the system to work until it generates evidence, and then schedule the audit. After Stage 1 and Stage 2 confirm conformity, a three-year certificate is issued.
How long does ISO certification take in Colombia?
Companies with a working system usually certify 6 to 12 weeks after Stage 1. Several farms, departments, or standards extend that.
How much does ISO certification cost in Colombia?
We do not publish a price list. Your fee depends on the man-days needed for your staff numbers, sites, risk, and standards.
Is Accredify Global accredited?
Yes. UAF accredits Accredify Global for twelve standards, among them ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 27001, and ISO 37001.
Does a SECOP II tender require an ONAC-accredited certificate?
Some pliegos ask for it and others accept any accredited certificate. Read the exact wording and send it to us before you book.
Does ISO certification help with the RUP?
The RUP records your experience and financial capacity. Certificates are usually scored in the tender itself, so keep them current and in the name of the registered company.
Is ISO 45001 the same as the SG-SST?
No. The SG-SST is a legal duty under Decree 1072 of 2015. ISO 45001 is a voluntary standard that fits the same structure and adds an independent audit.
How fast must a data breach be reported to the SIC?
Within 15 business days of detecting the incident. A reform bill would shorten this to 72 hours, but it was not law when this page was reviewed.
What fines can the SIC impose for data protection breaches?
Fines reach the equivalent of 2,000 legal monthly minimum wages, and the SIC can also suspend or close processing operations.
Do we have to register databases in the RNBD?
Companies with total assets above 100,000 UVT must register their databases with the SIC. ISO 27701 helps keep those entries accurate.
Does ISO 37001 help with a transparency program (PTEE)?
Yes. It provides risk assessment, due diligence, and controls that a PTEE needs, plus an external audit of how they work.
Can flower farms on the Sabana de Bogotá share one certificate?
Yes, if every farm runs the same management system under one organization. Each farm is listed, and audits sample them across the cycle.
Does the 42-hour week change our audit?
Auditors will check that new shift patterns still allow training, supervision, and rest under your procedures.
Can any part of the audit be remote?
Document review and some interviews can be remote where the rules allow. Farms, plants, and field sites are visited in person.
Does Accredify Global write manuals or the SG-SST?
No. Certification bodies cannot consult and certify the same client. Your team or an independent consultant builds the system, and we audit it.
