ISO Certification in Cyprus: Accredited Audits for Shipping, Tourism, Financial Services, and Food Producers
ISO certification in Cyprus helps Limassol ship managers satisfy charterers, gives hotels and food producers proof of control, and lets regulated investment firms show audited security. Accredify Global audits Cypriot organizations against ISO 9001, ISO 27001, ISO 22000, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and the other standards in our accredited scope.
Where ISO Certification in Cyprus Adds Value
ISO certification in Cyprus is formal, independent proof that your management system meets an international standard and that staff actually follow it. An accredited certification body reviews documents, samples records, interviews people, and observes work at hotels, plants, ship management offices, or other workplaces. A system that conforms receives a certificate for three years, with a surveillance audit in each of the two years between.
Shipping is the clearest example. Limassol hosts a dense cluster of ship management, crewing, and maritime service companies. Charterers, flag states, and oil majors already audit their safety management under maritime codes. Many of these firms add ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 to show the shore organization runs to the same discipline.
Tourism is the second pillar. Hotels and resorts in Ayia Napa, Protaras, Paphos, and Limassol work with European tour operators who ask about food safety, energy use, and guest data. ISO 22000, ISO 14001, and ISO 50001 give those operators verifiable answers before contracts are renewed for the next season.
Financial and professional services form the third group. Nicosia and Limassol are home to investment firms, fund administrators, forex brokers, payment companies, and corporate service providers supervised by CySEC or the Central Bank of Cyprus. Their banking partners and EU clients expect ISO 27001, and DORA now formalizes ICT risk duties for many of them.
Food producers and manufacturers complete the picture. Dairies, bakeries, juice makers, and wineries supply supermarkets on the island and export buyers abroad. Halloumi has held EU protected designation of origin status since 2021, which has raised traceability expectations across the dairy chain.
Accredify Global holds UAF accreditation, listed in the UAF online directory. The national accreditation body in Cyprus is CYS-CYSAB, and the national standards body is the Cyprus Organisation for Standardisation (CYS). If a tender or contract names a particular accreditation body, show us the clause before booking and we will confirm whether our certificate fits.
Cypriot Rules in 2026 That Shape Certification Requests
Cyprus adds its own layer to GDPR. Law 125(I)/2018 came into force on 31 July 2018, and the Commissioner for Personal Data Protection enforces it from Nicosia. Notifiable breaches go to the Commissioner within 72 hours. The law caps fines on public authorities with non-profit activities at €200,000. It also bans processing genetic or biometric data for life or health insurance, even with consent.
NIS2 is already law. Parliament passed the Security of Networks and Information Systems (Amendment) Law, Law 60(I)/2025, in April 2025. It amends Law 89(I)/2020 and names the Digital Security Authority as the competent authority. Essential entities face fines up to €10 million or 2% of worldwide turnover. Important entities face up to €7 million or 1.4%.
Public tenders ask for paperwork in strict form. Contracting authorities follow Law 73(I)/2016 and publish tenders on the national eProcurement system run by the Treasury. Tender documents often list ISO certificates among the required evidence. Missing or non-conforming documents can lead to disqualification, and disputes go to the Tenders Review Authority.

Standards Cypriot Clients and Buyers Request
Each sector on the island has its own customers and checklists. These pairings appear most often in our scoping calls.
| Sector | What the buyer worries about | Usual standards |
|---|---|---|
| Ship managers and crewing agencies in Limassol | Shore office control for charterers | ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 |
| Hotels, resorts, and catering firms | Food safety and tour operator audits | ISO 22000 and HACCP |
| Investment firms, brokers, and fund administrators | Client data, ICT risk, and DORA | ISO 27001 and ISO 22301 |
| Software, gaming, and payment companies | Security reviews and privacy duties | ISO 27001 and ISO 27701 |
| Dairies, wineries, and food manufacturers | Traceability for retail and export | ISO 22000 and ISO 9001 |
| Contractors on public works and energy projects | Tender evidence and site safety | ISO 9001, ISO 45001, and ISO 14001 |
| Hotels and plants with high energy bills | Cooling, heating, and fuel costs | ISO 50001 |
Maritime safety codes and flag-state audits are separate from ISO certification. ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 complement them at shore offices.
A ship management company in Limassol shows how one audit can serve several masters. Its safety management already answers to flag administrations and charterer inspections. Charterers and oil majors then ask about the office itself, covering procurement, crewing, environmental reporting, and staff safety. An integrated ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 system answers those questions with one set of records. The audit focuses on the shore organization and the controls it applies to vessels, rather than repeating flag-state checks on board.
How ISO Supports Cypriot Requirements
A certificate is not a licence or a regulator's approval. It is the working system that keeps controls in place between inspections.
| Rule or system | Who it reaches | How ISO supports it |
|---|---|---|
| Law 125(I)/2018 and GDPR | Every controller and processor in Cyprus | ISO 27701 runs privacy duties; ISO 27001 secures the data |
| Law 89(I)/2020 as amended by Law 60(I)/2025 | Essential and important entities under NIS2 | ISO 27001 supports risk management and incident handling |
| DORA, supervised by CySEC and the Central Bank of Cyprus | Investment firms, banks, insurers, and ICT suppliers | ISO 27001 and ISO 22301 support ICT risk and continuity evidence |
| Safety and Health at Work Law 89(I)/1996 | Employers, enforced by the Department of Labour Inspection | ISO 45001 builds on the required risk assessment and safety register |
| Law 73(I)/2016 on public contracts | Firms tendering through eProcurement | Certificates answer quality and capacity criteria |
Some needs call for testing or a separate scheme rather than a certificate. Our VAPT services and cyber security risk assessment report against recognized frameworks. Payment and forex firms can add PCI DSS readiness, and our DORA readiness and NIS2 readiness pages explain how gap reviews run. For privacy programs beyond ISO 27701, see our GDPR services.

FAQ: ISO Certification in Cyprus
Answers on shipping, hotels, CySEC firms, NIS2, tenders, cost, and timing.
How does a company get ISO certification in Cyprus?
Choose the standard your client, charterer, or tender names, and run it until it produces records. Then book Stage 1 and Stage 2 with an accredited body, which issues a three-year certificate if you conform.
How long does ISO certification take in Cyprus?
With a working system, most firms certify 6 to 12 weeks after Stage 1. Hotels with seasonal staff, several sites, or a new system may take longer.
What does ISO certification cost in Cyprus?
There is no list price. The fee follows the audit man-days your scope needs, based on staff numbers, sites, risk, and standards.
Is Accredify Global accredited?
Yes. UAF accredits Accredify Global for twelve standards, including ISO 9001, ISO 27001, ISO 22000, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001.
A tender mentions CYS-CYSAB. Can we use your certificate?
It depends on the clause. Some tenders accept any accreditation under the IAF arrangement, while others name CYS-CYSAB. Send us the wording before booking.
Does ISO 9001 replace a ship manager's safety management audits?
No. Flag-state and maritime code audits remain separate. ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 cover the wider shore organization alongside them.
How fast must a data breach be reported in Cyprus?
Notifiable breaches go to the Commissioner for Personal Data Protection within 72 hours of the organization becoming aware.
Has Cyprus transposed NIS2?
Yes. Law 60(I)/2025, passed in April 2025, amended Law 89(I)/2020. The Digital Security Authority supervises essential and important entities.
Do CySEC-regulated firms need ISO 27001?
It is not a legal requirement. However, DORA sets ICT risk duties for many of these firms, and ISO 27001 gives a tested framework for meeting them.
Do Cyprus public tenders require ISO certificates?
Many tenders on the eProcurement system list ISO certificates among required documents. Non-conforming documents can disqualify a bid, so check the exact wording.
Which standard should a hotel in Paphos or Ayia Napa start with?
Most start with ISO 22000 for kitchens and food service. ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 often follow when tour operators ask about energy and waste.
Can audits avoid the summer season or Orthodox Easter?
Yes. We plan around Easter, Green Monday, and mid-August, and we schedule hotel audits when the property is open and operating.
Can parts of the audit be remote?
Document review and some interviews can be remote where the rules allow. Hotels, plants, and offices are audited in person.
Can one certificate cover Cyprus and Greece?
Yes, if all sites run one management system under the same organization. Each address is listed on the certificate.
Will Accredify Global write our documents?
No. A certification body must remain impartial, so we audit and certify only. Your team or an independent consultant builds the system.
