Automotive Quality Standards in 2026: IATF 16949, ISO 9001:2026, and TISAX
IATF 16949:2016 is still current. The IATF is developing a second edition. Its July 2026 stakeholder communique says publication is planned for mid-2027. The priorities include simplification, software quality, tier N supply chain management, launch management, and customer-specific requirements.
Both transitions will end together. ISO 9001:2026 was published in September 2026. The IATF plans to end the IATF 16949 transition at the same time as the ISO 9001 transition, so suppliers can plan one change program.
Information security is now a supplier requirement. European vehicle makers commonly ask suppliers for a TISAX assessment. Vehicle cybersecurity rules under UN Regulation 155 also flow down to suppliers of connected parts and software.
