What ISO Certification in Vietnam Tells Foreign Buyers

ISO certification in Vietnam is a finding by an accredited certification body that your management system meets an international standard and is actually used. Auditors check documents, interview managers and line workers, and visit the factory floor, cold store, or delivery centre. A conforming system gets a three-year certificate, kept current by yearly surveillance audits.

Vietnam is one of Asia's largest export manufacturing bases. Electronics assembly clusters around Bac Ninh, Thai Nguyen, and Hai Phong in the north. Garment, footwear, and furniture plants concentrate around Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai in the south. Their customers in the United States, the EU, Japan, and Korea treat ISO 9001 as an entry ticket.

Trade agreements raise the bar. The EU–Vietnam Free Trade Agreement has applied since 1 August 2020, and Vietnam joined the CPTPP in January 2019. Lower tariffs brought more European and Pacific buyers, and those buyers bring environmental, safety, and traceability questions. ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 answer many of them before the buyer visits.

Food exports follow the same pattern. Shrimp and pangasius processors in the Mekong Delta, and coffee and cashew processors in the Central Highlands, ship to retailers who expect a recognized food safety system. ISO 22000 and HACCP give them that base.

Software outsourcing is the fastest-growing request. Development centres in Hanoi, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City build systems for Japanese, Korean, and Western clients. Those clients ask for ISO 27001, and since January 2026 they also ask how you meet the new personal data law.

Accredify Global is accredited by UAF, and our scope is public in its directory. Vietnam's national accreditation body is BoA, and national standards are published as TCVN. If a tender or buyer names a specific accreditation body, share the wording before you book and we will confirm the fit.

Vietnamese Rules in 2026 That Shape Certification Requests

Personal data protection is now a full law. The Law on Personal Data Protection (No. 91/2025/QH15) was passed on 26 June 2025 and took effect on 1 January 2026. Decree 356/2025/ND-CP guides it and replaced Decree 13/2023/ND-CP. The Ministry of Public Security oversees personal data protection.

Penalties are tied to revenue. Unlawful cross-border transfers can be fined up to 5% of the previous year's revenue. Buying or selling personal data can draw fines of up to 10 times the proceeds. Other violations carry fines of up to VND 3 billion for organizations, and individuals face half those amounts.

Violations must be reported quickly. Controllers must notify the personal data protection authority within 72 hours of detecting a qualifying violation. Organizations must also appoint a data protection officer or unit. Small businesses and start-ups may defer that duty for five years unless they process sensitive data or large volumes.

Brand social compliance audits and retailer food schemes are separate programs. ISO 9001, ISO 45001, and ISO 22000 support them but do not replace them.

Factories in foreign-invested groups gain the most. A Korean, Japanese, or Taiwanese parent often runs plants in two or three Vietnamese provinces. Each plant faces visits from the same global brands, asking the same questions about quality, waste, and worker safety. One integrated system covering all plants lets every visit start from audited evidence. It also helps local managers keep records in Vietnamese while the parent reads summaries in English.

How ISO Supports Vietnamese Requirements

A certificate is not a business licence or a regulator's approval. It is the system that keeps controls working between inspections and buyer visits.

Rule or systemWho it reachesHow ISO supports it
Law on Personal Data Protection and Decree 356/2025Organizations processing personal data of people in VietnamISO 27701 runs privacy duties; ISO 27001 secures the data
Law on Data (in force 1 July 2025)Organizations handling and transferring dataISO 27001 sets data classification and access control
Law on Occupational Safety and HygieneAll employers, especially factories and constructionISO 45001 structures hazard control and training records
Law on Environmental Protection 2020Manufacturers, including producer responsibility dutiesISO 14001 tracks permits, waste, and monitoring
Law on Digital Technology Industry (from 1 January 2026)Semiconductor, AI, and digital technology firmsISO 42001 and ISO 9001 give audited governance
Law on Bidding and the national e-procurement systemFirms bidding for public projectsCertificates strengthen technical evaluation

Some needs call for testing rather than certification. Our VAPT services and cyber security risk assessment report against recognized frameworks. Payment firms can add PCI DSS readiness, and outsourcers serving European clients can use our GDPR and compliance services. Cross-border transfers under the new law need a transfer impact assessment filed with the authority, and ISO 27701 records make that file easier to prepare.

Common questions

FAQ: ISO Certification in Vietnam

Answers on exports, the Personal Data Protection Law, Tet scheduling, cost, and timing.

How do I get ISO certification in Vietnam?

Start with the standard your buyer or tender names. Operate the system until it has records, an internal audit, and a management review. Then book Stage 1 and Stage 2 with an accredited body, which issues a three-year certificate if you conform.

How long does ISO certification take in Vietnam?

A factory with a working system usually certifies 6 to 12 weeks after Stage 1. Several plants, combined standards, or the Tet shutdown add time.

How much does ISO certification cost in Vietnam?

There is no fixed price. The fee follows audit man-days, which depend on headcount, shifts, plants, process risk, and standards.

Is Accredify Global accredited?

Yes. UAF accredits Accredify Global for twelve standards, including ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 22000, and ISO 27001.

What does the Personal Data Protection Law require after a breach?

Controllers must notify the personal data protection authority under the Ministry of Public Security within 72 hours of detecting a qualifying violation.

Do small businesses get relief under the new data law?

Yes. For five years, small businesses and start-ups may defer appointing a data protection officer and filing impact assessments. The relief does not apply if they process sensitive data, large volumes, or provide data processing services.

Does ISO 27701 help with Decree 356/2025?

Yes. ISO 27701 adds privacy roles, processing records, consent and rights handling, and breach response to ISO 27001. Those records support the impact assessments the law requires.

Our province merged in 2025. Must the certificate address change?

The certificate should match your registered address. Once your Enterprise Registration Certificate shows the new address, send it to us and we update the certificate record.

Does a brand social compliance audit replace ISO 45001?

No. Brand audits check a code of conduct on the day. ISO 45001 certifies a safety management system that runs all year, and it often makes brand audits smoother.

Will EU buyers accept a UAF-accredited certificate?

Most accept accredited certificates from bodies in the international arrangement. If a buyer names a particular accreditation body, share the clause before booking.

When should we avoid scheduling the audit?

Avoid the weeks around Tet, when most plants close and staff travel home. The 30 April and 1 May holidays and 2 September National Day also shorten those weeks.

Can our records stay in Vietnamese?

Yes. Records can stay in Vietnamese. The proposal states the audit language and whether interpretation is needed.

Can one certificate cover our Vietnamese plants and the foreign parent?

Yes, if they run one management system under the same organization. Each site is listed on the certificate and sampled over the cycle.

Can audits be done remotely?

Document review and some interviews can be remote where the rules allow. Factories, cold stores, and warehouses are audited in person.

Will Accredify Global write our procedures?

No. A certification body must stay impartial, so we audit and certify only. Your team or an independent consultant builds the system.
