ISO certification in Brazil is an accredited certification body's independent finding that your management system meets an international standard and works in practice. Importers in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East want proof of food safety and steady quality. ISO 22000 and ISO 9001 give them that proof alongside their own buyer schemes.
Mining and energy add strict safety demands. Iron ore operations in the Quadrilátero Ferrífero of Minas Gerais and in Carajás, Pará, rely on long contractor chains. Offshore oil around the Campos and Santos basins does the same, with supply bases in Macaé. Operators expect ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 from the firms they bring on site.
Finance and technology form a third cluster. São Paulo hosts most banks, payment institutions, and fintechs, and their suppliers face Central Bank rules on cyber risk. Brazilian Rules in 2026 That Shape Certification Requests
The ANPD is now a full regulatory agency. LGPD, Law 13.709/2018, has applied since 18 September 2020, with sanctions since 1 August 2021. Law 15.352/2026, signed on 25 February 2026, turned the ANPD into the National Data Protection Agency. Resolution 15/2024 requires notice of relevant security incidents to the ANPD and affected people within three business days.
Fines are capped per infraction. The ANPD can fine up to 2% of a group's revenue in Brazil for the last financial year, capped at R$50 million per infraction. It can also publicize the violation, block or delete data, and suspend processing. Most controllers must appoint an encarregado, the LGPD data protection officer.
Financial cyber rules were tightened in December 2025. CMN Resolution 5.274/2025 and BCB Resolution 538/2025 amended the cyber rules for banks and payment institutions. They added 14 controls, including multi-factor authentication, isolation of Pix and STR environments, and yearly independent intrusion tests. The new controls had to be in place by 1 March 2026.

Buyer schemes for soy, beef, and coffee, and the IATF 16949 automotive scheme, are separate programs. ISO standards support them but do not replace them.

How do I get ISO certification in Brazil?
Pick the standard your buyer, client, or edital asks for and run the system until it produces records. Then book the certification audit. After Stage 1 and Stage 2 confirm conformity, you receive a three-year certificate.
How long does ISO certification take in Brazil?
A company with a working system usually certifies 6 to 12 weeks after Stage 1. Several states, several standards, or a brand-new system take longer.

No. ABNT publishes the Portuguese edition of the same international standard. Certification is against the same requirements.
How fast must a security incident be reported under LGPD?
Resolution 15/2024 gives three business days to notify the ANPD and affected people. The clock starts when you learn the incident may cause relevant risk or damage.
Does ISO 27701 help with LGPD?
Yes. It adds privacy roles, records of processing, rights handling, and incident response to ISO 27001. It does not replace the law, but gives independent evidence.
Does ISO 27001 meet the BACEN cyber rules?
Not on its own. It covers risk assessment, policies, and controls. The amended rules add specific duties, such as Pix and STR isolation, that are checked separately.
Do medical device firms need ISO 13485 for Anvisa?
Anvisa applies its own good manufacturing practice rules under RDC 665/2022. ISO 13485 is closely aligned and builds the quality system inspectors expect.
Does ISO 45001 replace NR-1 compliance?
No. NR-1 is a legal duty under Brazilian labor rules. ISO 45001 gives you a management system that runs the risk program and proves it works.
Can audits be held in Portuguese?
