ISO Certification in Zimbabwe: Accredited Audits for Mining Suppliers, Agro-Exporters, Banks, and Contractors
ISO certification in Zimbabwe helps mine suppliers pass vendor checks, gives tobacco, sugar, and horticulture exporters evidence that foreign buyers trust, and helps banks and data-heavy firms prepare for POTRAZ inspections. Accredify Global audits Zimbabwean organizations against ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 27001, and the other standards in our scope.
What ISO Certification in Zimbabwe Proves to Mines, Buyers, and Lenders
ISO certification in Zimbabwe means an accredited certification body has checked your management system against an international standard and found it working in practice. Our auditors read your records, talk to staff on every shift, and walk the workshop, farm, plant, or office. If the system conforms, you receive a certificate valid for three years. A surveillance audit each year keeps it live.
Mining sets the pace for much of the demand. Platinum group metals come from the Great Dyke, gold from mines around Kwekwe, Shurugwi, and Bindura, and lithium from new projects near Goromonzi and Bikita. Mine owners screen their contractors hard. Drilling firms, engineering workshops, transport companies, and camp caterers are often asked for ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and ISO 9001 before they get on a vendor list.
Agriculture is the second driver. Flue-cured tobacco is sold through auction and contract floors in Harare each season. Sugar comes from the Lowveld estates near Chiredzi and Triangle. Citrus, macadamia, blueberries, and fresh vegetables go to buyers in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. Processors and packers use ISO 22000 and ISO 9001 to show food safety and consistent grading.
Harare is also home to banks, insurers, pension funds, telecom operators, and a growing software sector. Since the Cyber and Data Protection Act, these firms hold licences from POTRAZ as data controllers. ISO 27001 and ISO 27701 give them a tested way to run security and privacy controls that an inspector can follow.
Bulawayo has a long industrial history in engineering, textiles, and food processing. Mutare links the eastern highlands and the Beira corridor to Mozambique. Beitbridge handles much of the freight to South Africa. Logistics, cold-chain, and warehousing firms along these routes are asked for ISO 9001 by regional customers.
Accredify Global is accredited by UAF, and our scope is published in its directory. If a mine, buyer, lender, or tender document names a particular accreditation body, send us the clause before you book. We will confirm whether our certificate fits.
Zimbabwean Rules in 2026 That Drive Certification Requests
Data protection now has an active regulator. The Cyber and Data Protection Act [Chapter 12:07] names POTRAZ as the Data Protection Authority. Statutory Instrument 155 of 2024, published on 13 September 2024, requires anyone processing data of 50 or more people to hold a data controller licence. Existing controllers had six months to apply, and a data protection officer had to be appointed within 90 days.
Licences are tiered and renewed every year. SI 155 sets four tiers by number of data subjects, from 50 up to more than 500,000. A licence lasts 12 months, and renewal is due at least three months before expiry. POTRAZ began risk-based inspections on 1 September 2026, starting with sectors that hold sensitive data, such as banks, hospitals, schools, and NGOs.
Breaches must be reported fast. A data controller must notify POTRAZ within 24 hours of becoming aware of a breach. When the breach poses a high risk, affected people must be told within 72 hours. Transfers of personal data outside Zimbabwe need adequate protection in the receiving country or another lawful basis.

Standards Zimbabwean Customers Request
Vendor forms and buyer audits differ, but these combinations come up again and again.
| Sector | What the buyer worries about | Usual standards |
|---|---|---|
| Mining contractors, drillers, and engineering workshops | Fatalities, rework, and spills on site | ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and ISO 9001 |
| Tobacco merchants and processors | Grading consistency and traceable lots | ISO 9001 and ISO 22000 |
| Sugar, citrus, macadamia, and berry exporters | Food safety and residue control | ISO 22000, HACCP, and ISO 45001 |
| Banks, insurers, and pension funds in Harare | Customer data and system outages | ISO 27001, ISO 27701, and ISO 22301 |
| Telecom operators and software firms | Service levels and licence-holder data | ISO 27001 and ISO 20000-1 |
| Manufacturers in Bulawayo, Harare, and Gweru | Defects and plant energy use | ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 50001 |
| Freight, cold-chain, and border logistics firms | Damaged loads and driver safety | ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 |
Tobacco buyer programs and retailer farm schemes are separate from ISO. ISO 9001 and ISO 22000 support them but do not stand in for them.
Mining suppliers usually get the most from one integrated system. A typical firm runs a Harare head office, a workshop in Kwekwe or Gweru, and crews on two or three mine sites. One ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 system can cover all of them. The audit then samples crews in the field, not just the office. Each mine sees the same certificate, and the safety team stops filling in a different vendor pack for every client.
Where ISO Fits Zimbabwean Legal Duties
ISO does not replace a licence or permit. It keeps the controls behind them running between inspections.
| Rule or system | Who it reaches | How ISO supports it |
|---|---|---|
| Cyber and Data Protection Act [Chapter 12:07] | Anyone processing personal data in Zimbabwe | ISO 27701 covers privacy duties; ISO 27001 secures the data |
| SI 155 of 2024 licensing and DPO rules | Controllers with 50 or more data subjects | ISO 27701 records support licence files and inspections |
| Environmental Management Act and EMA permits | Mines, plants, and large projects | ISO 14001 tracks permit conditions and monitoring |
| NSSA workplace safety requirements | Factories, mines, and construction sites | ISO 45001 runs hazard control, training, and incident review |
| Public procurement through PRAZ | Suppliers bidding for state contracts | Certificates add weight in technical evaluation |
Some clients need testing, not a certificate. Our VAPT services and cyber security risk assessment give findings that a POTRAZ inspector or bank partner can review. Card-handling firms can add PCI DSS readiness. Exporters serving European customers can also use our GDPR services.

FAQ: ISO Certification in Zimbabwe
Answers on mining vendors, POTRAZ licensing, exports, cost, and timing.
How do I get ISO certification in Zimbabwe?
Pick the standard your mine client, buyer, or tender asks for. Run the system for a few months so it produces records. Then book a Stage 1 and Stage 2 audit with an accredited body. A conforming system earns a three-year certificate.
How long does ISO certification take in Zimbabwe?
A firm with a working system often certifies 6 to 12 weeks after Stage 1. Several mine sites, remote estates, or a brand-new system take longer.
How much does ISO certification cost in Zimbabwe?
We do not publish a price list. The fee depends on audit man-days, which follow headcount, number of sites, risk, and the standards in scope.
Is Accredify Global accredited?
Yes. UAF accredits us for twelve standards, including ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 22000, and ISO 27001.
Do mining companies in Zimbabwe accept UAF-accredited certificates?
Most vendor teams accept certificates from accredited bodies in the international recognition arrangement. If a mine names a specific accreditation body, send us the wording before you book.
Do I need a POTRAZ data controller licence?
Under SI 155 of 2024, you generally need one if you process personal data of 50 or more people. The tier depends on how many data subjects you hold.
How fast must a data breach be reported in Zimbabwe?
The controller must notify POTRAZ within 24 hours of becoming aware of it. If the breach is high risk, affected people must be told within 72 hours.
Does ISO 27701 help with POTRAZ inspections?
Yes. It gives you privacy roles, a record of processing, rights handling, and breach response that an inspector can trace. It does not replace the licence itself.
Must we appoint a data protection officer?
SI 155 required controllers to appoint a DPO within 90 days of the rules taking effect. The DPO needs relevant expertise and a POTRAZ-approved course.
Which standard should a mining contractor start with?
Most start with ISO 45001, because mine safety teams look at it first. ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 are often added in the same audit.
Is ISO 22000 enough for a tobacco or citrus buyer?
Not on its own. Buyers run their own programs. ISO 22000 and ISO 9001 give those programs a solid management base.
Can you audit sites on the Great Dyke or in the Lowveld?
Yes. We plan travel early and allow extra time in the rainy season when rural roads are slow.
Can parts of the audit be remote?
Document review and some interviews can be remote where the rules allow. Mine sites, workshops, farms, and plants are audited in person.
Can one certificate cover Zimbabwe and South Africa?
Yes, if both run one management system under the same organization. Each site is named on the certificate.
Will Accredify Global write our procedures?
No. A certification body must stay impartial, so we audit and certify only. Your team or an independent consultant builds the system.
